In the early morning hours of April 5th, 2025, Ashlee was walking with friends in downtown Dallas when a brief, harmless moment — her friend brushing his hand along a passing car — sparked a tragedy we’ll never forget.
The passenger, Kendrick Finch, jumped out with a gun. When Ashlee’s friend saw the weapon, he reached into her purse to grab his own for protection. But Kendrick opened fire first, shooting both Ashlee and her friend. Her friend returned fire in self-defense, but no one else was injured. Ashlee was hit in a fatal location and didn’t survive.
She didn’t provoke anything — she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Kendrick fled the scene but was arrested nearly two weeks later. On May 7th, he appeared in court to seek a reduction of his $500,000 bond — and at that time, his request was denied.
However, despite the overwhelming pain caused by his actions, Kendrick was ultimately released on bond on May 15th. We are deeply upset and heartbroken that he is back on the streets while we mourn the loss of Ashlee.
Now, we await trial — a long and difficult battle ahead. But we are committed to seeing this through for Ashlee, for others like her, and for the changes desperately needed to keep violent offenders out of our communities.
We will not stop fighting for justice.
